Kim Kardashian responded today to accusations of using blackface, darkening her skin in photos from her hypothetical natural state. This was one of several images to promote her new cosmetics line KKW Beauty which she tweeted and then retweeted with lighter skin:

One twitter user pointed out that Kim Kardashian has been using “perpetual blackface” throughout her career while black stars are rewarded for lightening their skin.

In today’s New York Times, she explained her rationale for the image and her plan going forward:

We’re trying very hard to get the best people.

I’m going to surround myself only with the best and most serious people...We want top of the line professionals.

Just kidding, those were two from Donald Trump. Here’s her quote:

I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it.

Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did. But we made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away.

So, not 100% on what the “problem” was–tanness? lighting?–but there was personal growth involved. Definitely. “Definitely I have learned from it,” she adds.

Taylor Swift’s ongoing boyfriend rotation is absolutely god damn exhausting, and her mom and boyfriend Joe Alwyn’s mom fear it, allege “sources” to Star Magazine (via Celebitchy):

“Dating Taylor comes with a lot of attention and she’s worried that Joe isn’t ready for that,” adds a friend of Joe Alwyn, who still lives with his parents in Crouch End, England. “Joe’s folks are afraid Taylor is going to swallow him whole!”

This, despite previous reports of a successful family outing in Nashville.

Fishy. Very fishy.

The reported pattern of behavior builds on early suspicions that Taylor Swift may or may not be a serial killer.

Blackface is something specific. I’m not really supportive of it’s continued expansion into more and more situations.
