Killer Whales Spray Rainbows, Celebrate Pride

In a Lisa Frank fantasy come to life, a pod of orcas was filmed off the coast of California shooting rainbows out of their blowholes. “Where do they get those wonderful toys?” you may be wondering. Allow the Daily Mail, which posted stills and the video footage below, to explain:

It is caused by the scientific process that transfers water particles through the beam of light into a perfect rainbow.

(Just kidding, I know you knew that already.)

Think it’s a coincidence this footage happened to surface during what is largely recognized as Pride month in the U.S. (Los Angeles Pride, in fact, got underway yesterday)? Doubt it—orcas are an empathic, highly evolved species. Thanks guys. Right back atcha 🙂
