During her performance at a Democratic National Convention event in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Kesha took a moment to speak about her ongoing legal battle with her former longtime producer Dr. Luke, as well as spoke out against the dangers of lax gun control laws.

At Gabby Giffords’ Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC event, Kesha took a break during her set to discuss her continuing suit against Dr. Luke (real name: Lukasz Gottwald), whom allegedly and repeatedly drugged and raped the singer in 2014.

Presumably alluding to both the lawsuit and extenuating factors related to it, the singer equated her own struggles with universal pain.

“I feel like if you’re a human being, you go through pain, and you go through hurt. And every single one of us knows that emotion. I don’t know if you guys know what I am going through. I’m going through a lawsuit. It’s fucking horrible.”

Kesha also used her stage time to address the issue of gun violence, made pertinent by the PAC’s pro-gun control stance.

“We as a nation, we can’t control who feels hurt,” Kesha told the crowd. “We can’t control who feels pain, and we can’t control what you do with the hurt and the pain and the anger. You can’t control every single person and know how they’re gonna deal with things, and know [whether or not] they’re gonna pick up a weapon. You don’t know that.”

“What we can control is who we give the fucking weapons to,” she added.

As People noted, this isn’t the first time that Kesha has publicly commented on prescient social issues. Earlier this year, the pop singer was given a Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award during the organization’s Equality Dinner in Nashville for her advocacy work for the LGBT community; she also donated concert proceeds to a charity for the victims of the Pulse shooting in Orlando a short time after the incident occurred.
