Juror Sends Defendant Encouraging Facebook Message During Deliberations

Latest

People the world over are continuing to find inappropriate uses for Facebook. In the U.K., juror Joanne Fraill contacted defendant Jamie Sewart after she was acquitted of conspiracy to supply drugs charges. Fraill wrote, “You should know me, I’ve cried with you enough.” The women exchanged a few messages, but were turned in after Sewart mentioned the conversation to her lawyer. The jury was still deliberating three related drug cases, and Fraill admitted that she did her own online research on another defendant. Sewart received a suspended sentence for contempt of court, but Fraill may be jailed for two years.
