Jenna Fischer Shares Insider Info On Hollywood's Weight Obsession

Latest

The Office star Jenna Fischer is Redbook‘s March 2011 coverlady. In inside, Fischer zeroes in on why actresses feel so much pressure to stay in shape.

As you may know, part of being a Hollywood actress is wearing clothes that are not your own. You’ve got wardrobe fittings, stylist fittings, award show fittings and photo shoot fittings.

Fischer explains:

“In a normal job, if you gain or lose a few pounds, it’s no big deal. But in my business you have to tell someone so that the next time you go to a fitting, the clothes are the right size. It’s really embarrassing to have to say to your manager, ‘I’m now a 6 pant instead of a 4.’ Emails go out, and they cc the agents: ‘Jenna would like everyone to know that she’s now a 6 pant.’ This is why actresses obsess about their weight. It’s not a private affair.”

While this makes a lot of sense — the paranoia and anxiety stemming from your personal business becoming public business — the fact remains that there’s nothing wrong with going up a pant size. No matter who you are. Can you still do your job? Yes? Okay. Moving on. And do you think Steve Carrell, Charlie Sheen or any of the men on hit TV shows care if they go up a pant size? No wonder four out of four Hollywood actresses are hungry. (Oh, and if/when they do lose a bunch of weight, art directors just Photoshop away their bones.)
