Is This The Hunger Games Cast?

Rumor has it that The Kids Are All Right's Josh Hutcherson and The Last Song's Liam Hemsworth are the frontrunners to star alongside Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games movie. Hutcherson — in the middle of the image above — would play Peeta Mellark; Miley Cyrus's on-again off-again boyfriend Hemsworth, on the right, would take the role of Gale Hawthorne.

In the books, Peeta is described as being medium height, stocky build, with "ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead" and blue eyes. Gale is supposed to be over six feet tall with black hair, olive skin, and gray eyes.

Whether or not any of these people can live up to the expectations of millions of fans remains to be seen. Hutcherson, to his credit, has actually read the books, and says: "I love Peeta… The character is so much who I am-self deprecating, a people person. And he'd be such a great character to play! Like in the third book? Oh my God."

Yeah, that's some olive skin he's got going on.

Sorry, Liam Hemsworth. It's not personal. I'm actually fine with this casting, except that this week I've also been reading about how Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, James McAvoy, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix are some of the names being considered for the roles of Tetsuo and Kaneda in the upcoming remake of "Akira." Yeah. So in general, my annoyance at seeing all-Caucasian main casts is on a hair trigger this week.
