Imagine What This House Full of Boys Smells Like

Welcome to boy house. Population? Lotta boys.

The Associated Press published a story on Tuesday about a Michigan couple that can’t stop, won’t stop having some boys. Jay and Kateri Schwandt of Rockford have 14 children total, all boys. The oldest of the boys have become men. The youngest remain boys at press time.

The laundry. The dirt. The Crossbow-eating contests. Chuckin’ dogs. Slappin’ horses. Yellin’ at trees. Eminem. If life in boy house sounds like chaos, that’s because it is.

“Crazy. Chaotic. Noisy. Messy. But, we enjoy it. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t have continued to have this many children,” said Jay. Makes sense.

Nineteen-year-old Brandon, who has met at least one girl (mom), doesn’t think boy house is all that unusual. “It’s just what we grew up with,” he said. “It’s just life. It’s our life.”

Boy house might be a way of life, but its days are numbered. The AP reports that 21-year-old son Drew and his girlfriend, Anelene Mellin, are expecting a daughter.

“I’m really excited about it,” Mellin said. “She’ll be extremely loved and probably spoiled.”

Long live girl house.
