Celine Dion, the only living female French Canadian recording artist I refer to as “Mom,” was photographed leaving the Royal Monceau hotel in Paris on Friday afternoon wearing a gorgeous hooded sweatshirt that I would like to own.
The oversized hoodie is black, 80 percent cotton, 20 percent polyester, and features a washed out image of the three protagonists from the 1997 film Titanic (the movie for which she recorded her global hit “My Heart Will Go On”) on its front. The words “COMING SOON” are printed in red type on both sleeves.
But do not be fooled by that description, as this cheap-sounding item of clothing is actually a piece from Vetements’s Spring-Summer 2016 collection, and it costs $885. Though I need the hoodie in my closet yesterday, I am not good friends with any generous Kathy Bates types, nor do not have an enormous blue gem in my possession that I could sell at a nearby pawn shop to get the cash required.
There are knock-offs available on websites like eBay, and I’ve flagged them for consideration later in the year, when stepping doesn’t make me long for a quick dip in the North Atlantic.
