Hospital Sends Out "Rubbish" Job Ad

A British hospital is conducting an internal investigation after a job ad on its website concluded with the line, "Usual rubbish about equal opportunities employer etc." The hospital was quick to state that it does not actually consider equal employment opportunity to be "rubbish":

The wording on this advert in no way reflects the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust's position in relation to equal opportunities, to which it is fully committed.

It seems plausible that someone just typed the statement as a placeholder, without malicious intent, and forgot to update the post before it went live. Still, equating non-discrimination with garbage looks pretty bad for any organization. The hospital might consider holding some refresher meetings on employment policy, as well as proofreading.

As someone currently on the prowl for a job, I completely skim all the EOE stuff on job listings. Honestly, seeing "Usual rubbish about equal opportunities employer etc" in an ad would make me think that perhaps this employer (or at least their HR folks) had a sense of humor, and would make me more likely to apply. I would assume "rubbish" did not actually mean "equal opportunity employment is garbage" but "there are standard, pre-written statements about this that everyone puts and we know you've read before so let's not waste everyone's time."
