The upcoming 27th season of The Simpsons is getting really grim, with a storyline that finds Homer and Marge legally separating. I knew Lena Dunham would be at the center of this.

Dunham voices the part of a woman who captures Homer’s heart in the season premiere, just like Dunham has captured America’s. According to the show’s executive producer Al Jean:

“...It’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage. Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham. We’ll have cameos from the other women from ‘Girls.’”

Cool, cool, cool. Trivia time! The Simpsons did a version of this storyline before in the episode “A Milhouse Divided,” where Homer files for divorce from Marge so he can remarry her under better conditions. In the surprise ceremony, Homer tells Marge, “It’s a second wedding, honey. Our first one was so crummy, I had to make it up to you.”

Other plots this season: Bart is scheduled to be killed by the maniac who’s actually a sweetheart, Sideshow Bob. And Lisa becomes friends with a singing homeless woman voiced by Kate McKinnon.
