Here's Mrs. Krabappel's Sweet Final Appearance on The Simpsons

Illustration for article titled Heres Mrs. Krabappels Sweet Final Appearance on iThe Simpsons/i

Last fall, Marcia Wallace, the voice of Bart Simpson's teacher Edna Krabappel, passed away just shy of her 71st birthday after a long battle with breast cancer. On Sunday, Wallace's character Mrs. Krabapple made her final appearance on the show, and the tribute was predictably sweet and sad.

Spoiler alert if you still care about watching Simpsons clips with an unbesotted virgin mind: the clip features Ned Flanders and Mrs. Krabappel (who at some point after I stopped planning my Sundays around this show, got married) dancing the tango together. Edna in a red form-fitting dress, Ned in the formal version of his Ned uniform. After several blissful swoops and dips, viewers discover that it was all in Ned's mind.

Class dismissed.

I'm surprised at this point the repeated kicking-in-the-teeth of Ned Flanders isn't being used as fuel for the "Christians-the real victims" culture wars. Poor fucker has lost two wives now.
