Pre-production on Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time has already begun, and Ava DuVernay has been tweeting out wonderful updates on its progress, including the addition of Gugu Mbatha-Raw to the cast.
Mbatha-Raw will be joining Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Storm Reid, who is playing Meg Murry. Mbatha-Raw will be playing Dr. Murry, Meg’s mom, a scientist struggling with the disappearance of her husband. DuVernay announced her addition on Thursday:
She also spent the day sharing pics of her crew, letting everyone know that all sorts of people can work in the film industry, and celebrating diversity in an absolutely adorable way:
This is very much in line with DuVernay’s commitment to giving people who may have trouble breaking into the industry a chance, and also really inspiring if you’re feeling bummed out by Hollywood’s diversity failures.
