Genius Thieves Steal 5 Metric Tons of Nutella

Latest

The majority of us, I would guess, live fairly upstanding lives. We wake up, go to work, pay taxes, say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and, most of the time, that probably works out quite well for us. But then — every so often — we hear a story about someone who steps off the straight and narrow, ignores the mores of society and the pulls off something so spectacular that we’re forced to question where all of this rule following has gotten us. Think about it. If I haven’t stolen 5.5 tons of Nutella in an elaborate heist, have I truly lived?

A group of thieves is currently on the lam after breaking into a parked storage trailer in Bad Hersfeld, Germany over the weekend and making off with upwards of 13,750 jars (according to the Atlantic Wire‘s calculations) of Nutella, the chocolate hazelnut spread that you probably wish you were eating right now. The AP estimates that the loot was worth an estimated $20,710 (16,000 euros).

Police are unclear about the number of culprits involved in the heist, but suspect that it’s the same thieves who were involved in a previous and similar food theft in the area. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? These guys have finally moved on to the big leagues.
