Former Power Ranger Charged With Murdering Roommate Using a Sword

Latest

Former Mighty Morphin Power Rangers actor Ricardo Medina has been charged with murder for allegedly killing his ex-roommate with a sword in 2015. He’s currently awaiting a bail hearing.

The L.A. Sheriff’s department took Medina into custody on Thursday. The D.A. is requesting a $1 million bail for the actor as he awaits an arraignment on January 19 in L.A. County Superior Court.

According to Deadline:

Though taken in for the murder back on the last day of January last year, Medina was let go after a court hearing because case was rejected. At the time, the D.A.’s office said the matter was still being investigated and would not rule out charges down the line.

Medina played the Red Wild Force Ranger in the Fox Kids/ABC Kids series around 2002 and again in 2012. The incident allegedly started with a fight between Medina and his then-roommate Josh Sutter.

TMZ reported at the time:

According to law enforcement …law enforcement … Medina retreated to his bedroom with his girlfriend — but Sutter forced his way into the bedroom … and that’s when Medina allegedly stabbed him once in the abdomen with the sword.

When released from custody last February, Medina said, “I’m very, very, very sorry for what occurred. I’m very happy to be out of jail, and my heart goes out to the Sutter family.”

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first Power Rangers arrest. Walter Jones, who played the Black Ranger in the ’90s version, was arrested for DUI in 2009. That same year, Skylar Deleon, another actor from the show who appeared in one episode was sentenced to death for murdering a couple on a yacht. Sounds a little bit like a third-grade urban legend that someone might make a movie about, who knows.
