Florida Just Passed the Largest Expansion of Voting Rights the United States Has Seen in Decades 

Here’s one bit of good news out of Florida to tide you over no matter what happens for the rest of this hell night: A majority of Floridians voted in favor of Amendment 4, which restores voting rights for people with felony convictions. This will restore the right to vote to 1.5 million people, according to data from the Sentencing Project, making it the largest expansion of voting rights in decades.

This measure will disproportionately benefit black Floridians: one in five black Floridians are currently ineligible to vote due to felony convictions.

This is a a massive victory for Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, a grassroots organization run by those who call themselves Returning Citizens or Formerly Convicted Persons.
