Female Merit Badges Represent "Rites Of Passage"

Artist Mary Yaeger has created a series of "Female Merit Badges," which are designed to represent "female "rites of passage' as well as the myriad physical manipulations women undergo to achieve cultural ideals of beauty."

The badges resemble Girl Scout badges, but illustrate such things as birth control pills, pregnancy tests, and breast exams. "The miniature scale and meticulous, hand-embroidered surfaces convey my impressions of growing up female in our culture," Yaeger says. [Mary Yaeger] via [Neatorama]

I'm going to come out of the closet right now and say that I enjoy ironing in a big, big way. I've started learning how to quilt and it sings to me when I get do press material. If I have a bad day at work, I'll be up in the project room, ironing away.

I even treated myself to the second most expensive iron Target has. It's big, it's chromed out and it's mine all mine.

So yeah, I like the ironing.
