Anti-choice Democrats, led by Bart Stupak, have agreed to vote in favor of the health care reform bill as long as President Obama signs an executive order reaffirming that no federal funds will be used to pay for abortions. [NYTimes]
Don't lynch me. I have an honest question. Why should abortion be federally funded? In cases where abortion is choice outside of a medical issue, why should the government pay for it any more than they should pay for any elective surgery? If it is a life threatening situation for mother or child, then I could see a case for federal funding, but in elective situations, I don't. Show me the error in my thinking.
