Meghan Alt, a 25-year-old mother and former pageant queen from Irvine, California, was arrested after confessing to creating and distributing child pornography. The victim was a four-year-old female family member.
According to the Orange County Register, the investigation began after the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) became aware of the photos. Authorities said Alt sent sexually explicit images of the child to a Marine stationed in Southern California in exchange for money and gifts. Her husband was not aware of Alt’s activities and cooperated with investigators. Their children are currently in his care.
Alt won the title of Mrs. Orange County in 2014 and went on to compete in the Mrs. California pageant that same year. She appeared in court on Friday, but did not enter a plea. Alt faces felony charges including possession and control of child pornography and three counts of lewd acts on a child younger than 14.
Alt is also an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where authorities believe she performed volunteer work with young kids. Police are asking for help in identifying any other potential victims.
