The latest trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is here, and with it a little lesson in how wizards smuggle magical creatures across borders.
The answer for Newt Scamander, played by the doe-eyed and distracted Eddie Redmayne, is a special “Muggle Worthy” lock that enables him to glide through customs as he makes his way to New York City with mysterious cargo in tow. He’s making the journey after being expelled from Hogwarts—his scarf reveals him to be a Hufflepuff—but it remains to be seen why he has traveled across the pond.
Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), and Colin Farrell (your fantasies circa 2007) all make significant appearances in the trailer. As Vulture notes, Waterston’s character seems to be allied with Scamander, with Farrell and Ejogo suspicious and “in hot pursuit.”
The first film in the new trilogy hits U.S. theaters on November 16, at which point we will figure out which fantastical beast Eddie’s hiding.
