Donald Glover and Rashida Jones Outline the Do's (and Mostly Don'ts) of Sexual Harassment at Work

Latest

Have you ever worked in an office and wrestled with the following question: I’d like to ask out my subordinate on a date, but I don’t know if i should? If so, then boy: this PSA voiced by Donald Glover and directed by Rashida Jones from Time’s Up is about to clear a whoooole bunch of stuff up for you!

“Has the current wave of sexual allegations left you scared, confused, maybe even a little angry? Is the culture under your feet so fast you can’t make sense of it? Or do you simply not know how to behave at work anymore?” Glover intones at the start of the video. “Fear not.” And fear not, indeed, because he gets straight-ish to the point.

Don’t assume anyone, ever, wants a full-body hug at work. If you think a colleague is sexy, yes, you are a FREE AS A BIRD to think that all you want! The problem comes when you say it out loud, which, head’s up, you should not do.

Don’t ask out subordinates! Probably! Or just, really, really think about all the potential unintended consequences if you do. Entertain the thought that maybe that person is just not that into you and being nice because you are their boss. Whoa! Crazy, I know, but stay with me.

Finally, call out creepy behavior when you see it! You have the power to affect change in your workplace. Sexual harassment, Glover explains, is like a Ouija board—it takes everyone’s hands on that thing to move it around! You could avoid making innocent people hurt and upset. You should probably do that!

But if you’re really still unclear on any of this stuff, just watch this until the end; there’s a handy URL that’ll be sure to help.
