Prince Henrik of Denmark is married to a goddamn Queen and he’s still bitter as fuck. Or, rather, that seems to be the cause of his bitterness.
People reported on Thursday that the Danish royal has opted not to be buried next to his wife, Queen Margrethe, in the custom-made sarcophagus that awaits them at Roskilde Cathedral (dark, but moving on…) because he’s pissed that he wasn’t anointed “King” when his wife ascended to the throne.
PRINCE Henrik thinks he’s the victim of a little something called “gender discrimination,” and, being that he is a man, is extremely comfortable voicing his ignorant misconceptions publicly. The royal told French newspaper Le Figaro, “It makes me angry that I am subjected to discrimination. Denmark, which is otherwise known as an avid defender of gender equality, is apparently willing to consider husbands as worth less than their wives.”
The royal family’s director of communications told Danish tabloid BT “It’ is no secret that the prince for many years has been unhappy with his role and the title he has been awarded in the Danish monarchy. For the prince, the decision not to be buried beside the queen is the natural consequence of not having been treated equally to his spouse—by not having the title and role he has desired.”
And for a little perspective on just how long the pugnacious prince has been fuming: Margarethe ascended to the throne 45 years ago. Holy shit, men know how to hold a grudge! I should add that, as in all things, women are still better at this. A part of me enjoys imagining Margrethe remaining married to the guy out of spite.
