Welcome to Barf Bag, a daily politics roundup to help you sort through the chaotic Trumpian news cycle.

Hope, it’s an important thing. I still have hope, for example, that one day, long after the robot uprising fails, I will wake up from my deep cryogenic slumber and learn that all of this was a nightmare fed to me through a chip implanted into my brain.

Here’s all the shit we couldn’t cover today:

  • Attorneys general in New York, California, and other Democratic states are suing the Trump administration over their decision to ask 2020 Census respondents if they are American citizens. The question might deter undocumented citizens and immigrants, already under persecution by this administration, from responding, according to the attorney generals. The government relies on the census for population estimates, basing districting and the allocation of federal money from those numbers. Because most undocumented immigrants live in blue states, their exclusion could translate to less funding, or skewed representation, in those states. [The Hill]
  • New York Congresswoman Grace Meng vows to introduce legislation to prevent the question from appearing in the 2020 census. [ABC News/Twitter]
  • Remember how Trump, who didn’t know where Puerto Rico was (and maybe still doesn’t?), essentially ignored the devastation of Hurricane Maria? Well, a new investigation by Politico has found the extent to which Trump neglected Puerto Rico, specifically by contrasting the response to Texas’s recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey. [Politico]
  • Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens calls for a repeal of the Second Amendment. [New York Times]
  • Must be nice to be a Wall Street banker! [Bloomberg]
  • Mitt Romney, a man I pray I will be allowed to forget one day soon, has come back to remind us why he is not very good. He characterized himself as “more of a hawk on immigration” than our xenophobe-in-chief, Donald Trump. [Politico]
  • Democratic challenger Cynthia Nixon is getting a little punchy. At a press conference on Tuesday, she compared New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to Donald Trump, saying, “He bullies other elected officials, he bullies anyone who criticizes him. It reminds me of the behavior we see from Donald Trump every day.” [The Hill]

“I am very pleased to welcome the opioid memorial to the President’s Park in April. I encourage all to visit and remember those who we have lost to this deadly epidemic. We will keep fighting until we defeat the opioid crisis!”

Keep fighting? Name one fucking concrete action anyone in Trump’s cabinet has taken to date?!? You’ve done absolutely NOTHING and you’re seemingly out of ideas!!
