Dave Chappelle Reportedly Regrets Saying He Was Going to Give Trump a Chance

In November, during the first post-election SNL, Dave Chappelle devoted much of his 11-minute monologue to Donald Trump. He joked about the the then-president-elect, calling him an “internet troll” at one point, but concluded on a serious note: “I’m wishing Donald Trump luck, and I’m gonna give him a chance, and we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one, too.”

Well, six months of thinking (and a nonstop pageant of White House disasters, no doubt) have apparently caused a change of heart. Via Pitchfork, the reports out of last night’s New York’s Robin Hood gala, where Chappelle delivered a set, found Chappelle backpedaling:

Well, at least he can admit that he was wrong—that’s more than anyone could say for Trump.

Some Pig. Terrific. Radiant. Humble.

Dave Chappelle shouldn’t be embarrassed about saying we should give Trump a chance. I think you should always give people the opportunity to do their job and prove themselves. In this case, Trump has proved that he’s a wildly inconsistent, bizarre, childish man with impulse control issues.

Dave is a great guy, and I love it that he tried to be fair.
