The Bachelor Australia is a lot like its American counterpart—only “down under,” the toilets flush backwards, it’s hosted by a man named “Osher,” and they call it “tha bach-ehl-loh.” That, and the women—one woman, at least—eat the roses after receiving them.
Which is all to say that The Bachelor Australia is somehow both weirder and more boring than the American Bachelor. For more examples: Instead of all the contestants being dental hygienists, everyone’s just really into water sports (and not the fun pee kind); the show features women in their 30s (the horror!); people say amazing things like “this is such gayme-change-juh;” Johnny Depp’s dogs are not welcome.
But—despite being cast alongside a children’s entertainer who literally acts like a little girl—it was Sasha, a contestant from Russia, who ultimately stole this Aussie freak show when she started nibbling the petals off her rose during the rose ceremony. (I get it—she just found out she was safe and needed a snack.)
“I’m standing there and I’m like, ‘Is she eating that rose?’” remarked Bachelor Richie Strahan, an oil rig worker from Western Australia. “What the hell is going on here? What have I got myself into?”
It sounds like you’ve gotten yourself into a reality show where you’re dating 27 wackos at once, Richie. If you can’t take the heat, it might be time to get out of rose kitchen.
