Author Carmen Maria Machado confirmed the news in a tweet. The book adaptation is being written by Gina Welch, who previously wrote for Feud: Bette and Joan and The Terror. The FX deal was reportedly the finale to a “competitive situation.”
This is stellar news considering FX’s interests. HBO and Showtime aren’t exactly risk-takers when it comes to horror, and I didn’t want this adaptation to get buried on a service like Amazon or Netflix. Considering FX is home to Atlanta (which basically turned into a gothic horror miniseries last year with the episode “Teddy Perkins”) and the best true crime drama of the year American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Machado’s chilling horror collection will definitely get the shine and gore it deserves at the network.
