In the first trailer, we learned that I Am the Night, a forthcoming TNT miniseries from Patty Jenkins starring Chris Pine, features a girl (Fauna Hodel, played by India Eisley) in search of her true identity, which is somehow linked to LA’s infamous Black Dahlia murder. Pine plays Jay Singletary, a reporter who, thanks to a new trailer, we now know has at least one scene shouting CAN YOU DIG IT? into the face of an alarmed interlocutor, his dyed blonde hair quaking on his scalp. He screams it at least twice.
What is Pine’s friend/enemy/pot dealer digging, or not? The trailer does not say, but TNT does offer some details about the plot. Via Rolling Stone:
“Fauna lives more-or-less comfortably with the mysteries of her origin, until one day she makes a discovery that leads her to question everything,” TNT said of the series.
“As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets of her past, she meets a ruined reporter, haunted by the case that undid him. Together they follow a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Los Angeles gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel, a man involved in some of Hollywood’s darkest debauchery, and possibly, its most infamous unsolved crime.”
Jenkins and Pine last worked together on Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984, which would seem to have little in common with the pair’s current project, unless Wonder Woman featured a creepy mime party that I somehow missed.
