Beauty 101: Tools Of The Trade

Latest

A reader recently wrote in and asked if we’d consider doing a Beauty 101 post “about beauty gadgets and tools.” So let’s do it, shall we?

I would love to see a beauty 101 about beauty gadgets and tools. Which have people tried and liked? Which are a total waste of money? The zeno spot treatment, would love to know if the light really works without risking the $200 if it doesn’t. The clean & clear blackhead eraser, the Neutrogena Wave, the inStyler curling iron, Fructis’ new frizz treatment. I am sure other readers have tried them and I would love to know what they thought. I am sure other readers might be curious too!

So basically, we’re asking you to discuss positive and negative experiences you’ve had with various beauty tools, from curling irons to deep-cleaning brushes to teeth-whitening systems to straighteners to yes, even infomercial products (think PedEgg). As with cosmetics, everyone’s experiences with different tools will most likely vary, but here’s a list of questions to keep in mind:

1. Does the product do what it promises?

2. Is it worth the cost? Have you found cheaper alternatives that are just as effective?

3. If you had problems with the product, did you have any problems returning it/refunding your money?

4. Have you seen a noticeable improvement in the health of your skin/hair, etc.?

As always, please leave your stories, tips, and tricks in the comments. A roundup of your advice will be posted tomorrow.
