Audio Surfaces of Trump Bragging on 9/11 About Having the Tallest Building in Downtown Manhattan

Politics

We all know by now that Donald Trump wastes no opportunity for a dick-measuring contest, and apparently that includes the tragic events of 9/11. Like, how did he even do that?

Hours after the World Trade Center towers fell on September 11, 2001, Trump called into WWOR-TV to discuss the attacks.

Here is how Trump responded to the question: “You have one of the landmark buildings down in the financial district, 40 Wall Street. Did you have any damage? What’s happening down there?”

“40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually, before the World Trade Center, was the tallest. And then, when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second-tallest. And now it’s the tallest.”

Just saying.

Politico posted the entire interview on Friday, and it went viral on Sunday after a Daily Beast editor tweeted out the audio clip where Trump discusses relative building heights:

The interview also features Trump trotting out the “jet fuel can’t melt steel beams” theory (though he doesn’t use those exact words), rather early, historically speaking. “How could a plane possibly go through the steel?” Trump says, speaking as a buildings expert. “I happen to think they had not only a plane but also bombs that exploded simultaneously.”
