An Exchange Between Sarah Silverman and a Follower Shows That Twitter Doesn't Have to Be Terrible Always

Latest

Sarah Silverman briefly stemmed the mighty tide of piss and bile that is “Tweets & replies” last week with a little kindness. In response to San Antonio user Jeremy Jamrozy’s tweet “cunt” at her on December 28th, she demonstrated that she is not:

I believe in you. I read ur timeline & I see what ur doing & your rage is thinly veiled pain. But u know that. I know this feeling. Ps My back Fucking sux too. see what happens when u choose love. I see it in you.

What’s cool about the following exchange is that, instead of doubling down on the tweet, Jeremy Jamrozy rose to the occasion and opened up. He shared that he’d been abused by a Kevin Spacey look-a-like when he was young, is anti-social, in pain from slipped discs in his spine and without insurance to cover treatment. Silverman urged him to go to a sexual abuse survivor support group and then asked her millions of followers if an area back specialist could help, and the offers rolled in. Other Twitter users responded in kind and offered emotional support.

In a following interview with mySA.com, he reported that Silverman offered to cover his medical bills. He started a GoFundMe with a $150 goal and at this writing has raised $1,223; he’s stated that he’ll donate the rest to fellow San Antonians who are also in need.

This is nice. H/t all around.

Most recently, Silverman has called for a fix for peeing on your tampon string, on behalf of all women TWITTER ARE YOU LISTENING.
