Amy Winehouse's "Me & Mr. Jones" Was About Nas

Illustration for article titled Amy Winehouses Me Mr. Jones Was About Nas

As it turns out, when Amy Winehouse sang "What kind of fuckery is this?" to Mr. Jones, she was referring to the hip-hop artist Nas, né Nasir Jones. Nas dated Mary J. Blige, was married to Kelis and has a 17-year-old daughter from an ex-fiancée, named Destiny. She, too, is name-dropped in the Winehouse track:

What kind of fuckery are you?
Side from Sammy you're my best black Jew
But I could swear that we were through (we were through)
I still want to wonder 'bout the things you do

Mr. Destiny 9 and 14
Nobody stands in between me and my man
'Cause it's Me and Mr Jones (Me and Mr Jones)

Accoring to Hop Hop Wired, the rapper and Amy shared the same birthday (9/14). Nas told XXL: "I don't really remember if Salaam, who was really close to her, who introduced us, if he told me about it or not. I don't remember right now. But, I heard a lot about it before I even heard the song."

The images above were taken in July of 2010 after Nas and Amy had dinner together in London.

Hmmm, I thought everyone knew that.

It's one of the reasons why I fell in love with my Amy J. , because she name-checked one of my favorite rappers - and, well, you can't get much cooler than that.
