The brief marriage and nasty legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is finally over. TMZ reports Tuesday that Heard’s “domestic violence restraining order” case against Depp has been settled, along with the couple’s divorce.
Sources tell TMZ Heard is walking away with $7 million (including attorneys’ fees, which couldn’t have been cheap), $1 million less than the number previously reported, though she says she will be donating those proceeds to an unnamed charity. Under the terms of the agreement, she will no longer make claims against Depp, a sudden change of events, given both that graphic and violent videos and pictures of Depp have leaked online in the past week, and that there was a great deal of drama about Heard’s deposition over the weekend.
It had previously been reported that Heard wanted Depp to acknowledge his alleged violence towards her, but the joint statement drafted by their lawyers does not include such a reference:
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”
And with those meticulously crafted five sentences, another Hollywood marriage is over.
