This weekend, while some of America sat at home spilling marinara sauce onto their sweatpants, designers continued unveiling beauteous collections at New York Fashion Week. Case in point: Alexander Wang showed his athletic-wear inspired spring 2015 line on September 6, and it was glorious.
Taking the new SNEAKERS AS FASHION idea much less literally than some of his peers, Wang used sport shoes as a reference point in designing dresses, fitted tops and tuxedo jackets in bold, graphic prints. It worked surprisingly well: the result is much more original than the inspiration would suggest. Among my favorite looks were the floor-length silk shirt dresses, the pleated mesh skirts, and the tailored Balenciaga-esque trousers and crop tops.
