On Friday afternoon, reports of an active shooter at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital on Grand Concourse came in, saying that at least 5 to 6 people are wounded, three of whom are doctors. The New York Times reports that the condition of the wounded is unknown, and police have not yet secured the area, as the shooter is still at large.

According to News 4, the suspect is wearing something resembling a doctor’s coat and carrying a rifle. There are reports of a “smoke condition” on the 16th floor of the hospital, and police are surveying the area from the roof. An official told the NYT that they believe the shooter is an employee of the hospital.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

Update 4:33 pm:

CNN reports that the shooter was found dead of a self-inflicted gun wound on the 16th floor of the hospital, next to the body of a woman who had been shot. There are five others wounded, three of whom are in critical condition. The New York Times reports that the shooter was identified as Henry Bello, a doctor who was listed as an employee in family medicine on the hospital’s website.
