A 12-Year-Old Ventriloquist Won America's Got Talent

12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer won $1 million and a contract for a Las vegas show on America’s Got Talent Wednesday night, becoming the third ventriloquist to win in the show’s 12 seasons.

The Associated Press reports that Farmer won against 10-year-old singer Angelica Hale, and the moment of the crowning is almost comically upsetting, as two preteens weep over their potential, imminent loss:


Farmer got the most votes from viewers, which means that America is getting the winner it wants and deserves. And she is undeniably good at clenching her jaw hard while manipulating a terrifying puppet. She tells jokes, and she sings:

And if you think there’s nowhere for a child ventriloquist to grow career-wise, Billboard reports that Winston the Impersonating Turtle and his butt-holder Terry Fator, who won Season 2, now has a 5-year contract at The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas for $100 million. This kid is set for life, with a little help from her felt friends.

My wife is super into this show and makes me watch it so I can say that this kid is incredibly talented. That said... 3 ventriloquists have won this show?? Like, that’s the talent America finds so impressive!? This seems bananas to me.
