46% Of Mississippi Republicans Think Interracial Marriage Should Be Illegal

While it’s sometimes said that in the future our current restrictions on gay marriage will be considered as ridiculous as opposing interracial marriage, it seems a significant number of people in Mississippi would like to take that leap backward. In a poll conducted by the left-leaning survey group Public Policy Polling, 46% of Mississippi Republicans said they believe interracial marriage should be illegal. 40% said it should stay legal and the rest weren’t sure. Those who said they were against mixed-race marriages were most likely to support Sarah Palin, and disliked potential candidate Mitt Romney.
