Watch Lupita Nyong'o's Post-Oscar Interview with Kelly and Michael

Latest

Lupita Nyong’o sat down with two of America’s most daytimey-est talk show hosts, Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, to talk about her stunning win as Best Supporting Actress at Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony.

Ripa nailed it when she told her “I think you captured the heart of the world with your speech last night.” (Boy, did it ever.) Nyong’o said while she writes from the heart, she doesn’t memorize her speeches, because then it’s really a letdown when you don’t win. “Gratitude is an emotion that is so hard to articulate,” she said.

Of course, the $64,000 question (from Strahan, naturally), about what you do when you have an Oscar statue and you have to go pee. This is important journalism; please do not mock! Me, personally, I would hold it above my head and do the one hand underwear pull-down and pee. I have done this with a friend’s very expensive purse she asked me to hold once at a party. This story just got awkward.

“This is the thing I trained myself for,” she explains (about actually winning the Oscar, not trying to pee with it). “I’m just trying to allow myself to absorb it all.
