CNN actually did a story on her a few weeks ago before Obama even mentioned her, because she was voting early and they cover the whole "all she's seen" angle. I wonder if the Obama camp found her through that. I'm gonna look for a link.
@BeckySharper: God, me too...as a reference both to the promise of the after-life, whatever you believe (part of God or part of the Earth), and for what we can and should strive to achieve as a society. Totally choke-sob-inducing and beautiful sentiment.
She's amazing -- I loved that President-elect Obama framed his overview of the last century against her story. Governor Patterson gave a similar chronology in his speech and while it was effective, it was much less moving.
I have a secret fear of living much past 47 (it's my scary age) but if I could live as long, as well and see as much as she has, I'd consider it.
@hussein persepolis hussein: Seriously. A woman next to me on the train this morning was watching news feeds on her iPhone and sniffing. I was reading yet another "hope saves the day" article and we shared a pack of tissues.
@hussein persepolis hussein: No lie. I just cried watching the Job Stewart clip of Obama talking about how much he loved his daughters. There is too much emotion for me to function normally!
@hussein persepolis hussein: I cried listening to the local morning radio show this morning when one of the DJ's was talking about calling her whole family etc..and my first thought was, "when is the crying part going to wear off? this is getting ridic"
@Dottie Gale:@Mkp-hearts-nyc: After 8 friggin years of miserable crap, I need a little bit of time to make the transition people! I'm not used to all this great stuff.
@bluebears: For the past 48 hours I start welling up every time I see a black person over the age of 50. I am going to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund gala tonight...they might end up carrying me out on a stretcher.
