Brittany Maynard, the 29-year-old woman with terminal brain cancer, has reportedly ended her own life.

According to People, Maynard posted a goodbye message on Facebook on Saturday shortly before taking her life:

“Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness, this terrible brain cancer that has taken so much from me … but would have taken so much more,” she wrote on Facebook. “The world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type … Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!”

Maynard was given six months to live by doctors who diagnosed her with a likely stage 4 glioblastoma. She made global headlines when she posted a video announcing she had chosen to end her life in face of the diagnosis. She later shared another video saying she had decided not to end her life, but would reconsider if her condition worsened.

Maynard’s friends and family posted farewell messages to Twitter and Facebook on Sunday. However, representatives for Maynard and her family have not confirmed the news to the media. Via KGW:

Sean Crowley, spokesman for the nonprofit advocacy group Compassion & Choices, told KGW he could not confirm Maynard’s death out of respect for the family’s privacy.

According to KGW, Maynard moved to Oregon so she could take her life legally under the Oregon Death With Dignity Act, using prescribed lethal medication.
