The FDA recently “relaxed” its outright ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood, changing its policy to allow donations with the caveat that donors remain celibate for one year prior to giving blood. This PSA, created by GLAAD and Gay Men’s Health Crisis and starring Alan Cumming, calls bullshit.
God, isn’t Alan Cumming the best? It is extremely unlikely that anyone would want to donate blood so badly that they are willing to stop having sex for an entire year in order to do so, and this very funny PSA captures that absurdity. Check out the website here, and sign a petition to pressure the FDA “to screen all prospective blood donors based on risk, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”
