Tristen Kole Killman, an 18-year-old resident of Norman, Oklahoma, has been arrested on charges that he raped a former classmate at Norman High School.
The feminist knitting circle who brought this story to the attention of Jezebel as well as the local and national media issued this statement:
“#YesAllDaughters has received word that Tristen Kole Killman has been arrested today. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Norman Police Department and the District Attorney’s office. The arrest has lifted a weight off of our community and especially off the victims and their families. We have faith that our courts will provide justice for the survivors and that this step will aid in their healing process. We will continue to stand by their side throughout the criminal proceedings. Thank you for your support of our #OKgirls and our movement.”
We’re working to obtain a copy of the arrest warrant and the exact charges filed against Killman and will update this post with more information when it’s available.
Update, 3:30 p.m.: Oklahoma City news station KOCO reports that Killman has been charged with two counts of rape, both relating to one incident that allegedly took place on September 19. KOCO reports that the charging documents indicate that Killman’s victim, a 16-year-old we referred to in our story as “Grace,” was unconscious. The news station adds: “Court documents show she said she had been out drinking with friends and the next morning received a video texted to her that depicted her being sexually assaulted in Killman’s car.”
According to KOCO, the court documents also state that “the victim told police that Killman admitted to having sex with the victim. The documents show he also admitted it to a third party.”
Killman’s bond has been set at $250,000.
