Waitress Pays for a Breastfeeding Mom's Dinner

Latest

Public breastfeeding is a topic mired in scandal. Well, maybe not scandal, but it’s more like — some people really, really hate to see tits when they’re not within the confines of their own darkened bedroom/strip club. It’s almost as if dem titties (read: women’s bodies) exist purely for male pleasure, or maybe some believe that seeing an unclothed areola in public can actually turn a man to stone. Suck on THAT. Or don’t.

One Des Moines, IA mom was certainly feeling the pressure to hide away her shame/body parts when she had to breastfeed her baby in public.

When out dining at Fong’s Pizza — Chinese decor, Tiki drinks, great beers, and delicious handmade pizzas, so awesome — Jackie Johnson-Smith had to give her baby a life-sustaining snack. “I usually don’t like to breastfeed in public because people can be judgmental,” she told Yahoo’s Shine. “The waitress kept walking by, and I was worried she didn’t want me nursing in the restaurant.”

She was so worried, she actually left the restaurant and went to her car to finish nursing.

However, waitress Bodi Kinney wasn’t judging. In fact, it was the opposite — she was psyched that a woman was breastfeeding her child in public. As a mother, she was used to negative reactions she got when nursing in public.

I noticed Johnson-Smith nursing and was so thrilled she did it. I tried not to stare because I didn’t want to seem creepy or make her feel uncomfortable, but I felt like doing jumping jacks.

She added:

Although I nurse my baby no matter where I am—at the supermarket, in clothing stores—people often react negatively. Recently, I had to leave my daughter’s school play to nurse my 8-month-old for fear of offending someone. I wanted to let this woman know in some shape or form, that she was doing the right thing.

Whether or not you choose to breastfeed — that’s a whole nother topic and I have no boob in that squirting contest! (sorry) — but if women are doing it, they should be allowed to do it wherever and whenever the hell they want. And if it takes free pizzas to get that idea across, I’m for it. (Actually, I’m always for free pizza, but this is especially cool.)
