Tom Hardy Says He Won't Make a Romantic Comedy Ever Again

This may be heartbreaking for some: Tom Hardy will probably never do another romantic comedy ever again.

Considering the one and only time American audiences got to see Hardy in a Hollywood romcom it was 2012’s This Means War, his desire to never, ever do one again is understandable. If you made the mistake of actually paying money to sit through that film, you have my deepest sympathies. (I’m here for you if you need to talk.) For those missed it, allow me to remind you that This Means War is a film Hardy and Chris Pine play super secret agent spy dudes who compete with each other for Reese Witherspoon. Hardy’s character was named “Tuck” and yes, that is the least absurd part of the movie. Here is a clip if you absolutely need to see one.

According to an interview Hardy did with USA Today, the experience making the film was pretty “miserable:”

“I love to do things I hadn’t done before,” says Hardy. Which explains that one time he tried on the big ol’ studio rom-com This Means War – and, well, hated it.
“I didn’t understand how you could do something which is so much fun and be so miserable doing it,” he says, blaming himself for feeling “other” on set. So consider that box checked. “I probably won’t do a romantic comedy again, do you know what I mean?”

I guess you can pretty much cross his name of the list of possible leading men in that remake of Sleepless in Seattle you know some studio is going to insist on making during your lifetime. In the same interview, we also find out what the deal is the puppy he loves making out with so much. The puppy’s real life name is Zora; his character in his new movie The Drop finds the puppy in the trash and rescues her. Shitty movies with Reese Witherspoon are out but movies where he adorably cuddles puppies he takes to premieres are totally fine. This guy is the greatest actor in the history of all time everywhere.

Hardy also won’t confirm if he’s actually married to actress Charlotte Riley. “I hate being tracked or followed,” Hardy told USA Today. “Whether I’m married or not married, people will find out. But it’s also not something I’m going to offer.”

The Drop, which also stars Noomi Rapace and the late James Gandolfini, is currently in theaters.
