lol Macedonian-type body...so yay i guess every country in the balkans gets their own body type- i need to make a magazine feature. are you a Serbian-shape or Croatian-shape? that's hilarious- the most uneducated statement i've heard in a while.
I think people need to stop speculating about THIS woman. Honestly, I don't think whatever is going on with this particular woman and her body is the real point. A "Miss" is supposed to represent the country, and be a role model. So while THIS PARTICULAR woman may eat like a horse and not have any eating issues whatsoever, her body does not represent happy and healthy for 99% of the population. She is selected to project an image; this image says "starve" and you will be beautiful. It may be easy for her, but it isn't for most, and so her image being tossed around as the beauty ideal, is damaging. Again, on an individual basis I don't have a problem, per se, with her figure, we are all different. BUT she is very far to one end of the spectrum that for most would be really, really unhealthy, so I don't like the idea of her body being chosen as the most ideal and beautiful.
If there is any further reason needed for the elimination of "beauty" pageants, then let it be the confluence of negative stereotyping, hypersensitivity to body image, and hypocrisy that surrounds this whole melee.
Can we just stop with "hipbone is coming to stab me" cracks? Because I'm pretty sure that if we were talking about any other body type the same kind of comment wouldn't fly.
If she is sick, I don't think we shouldn't be making those kinds of remarks at her expense.
Of course there's a Macedonian body type. There's also a Minnesota body type, so how dare anyone criticize me for being short, fat and cornfed. (Is she originally from Macedonia? Because otherwise the "Macedonian body type" is really random. What about an Azerbaijani body type? Or a United Arab Emirates body type? A Falkland Islands body type?)
@stealthird: Other features of a Macedonian body type: we sweats olive oil, our eyeballs are made out of feta cheese and our nipples are like little salty olives.
If there's a Macedonian body type is there a Mexican body type, too? How ridiculous would that be if I said that to everyone "Hey, it's okay I have a mexican body type!" Point being, we can't always apply nationality/ethnicity to body type. They all vary.
To my slender and lithe Jezebelles: I am sorry that there will be so much expressed here that rebounds off you in your natural, healthy states. You are lovely as you are, and I will tell anyone who questions your health to BTFO (back the fuck off).
To my Jezebelles recovering from or struggling with an ED: This post is clearly going to stir a pretty big pot, and stir it like crazy. Be good to yourselves. There's a lot of wisdom from a lot of the women here about how they've faced these issues themselves. Don't hold on to the shit that the pot serves up -- find the good stuff.
To my Jezebelles who carry more on their frames than they wish to carry You are not a number, or a series of numbers, and no one is better or worse than you because they have a different set of numbers to their names.
To all the Jezebelles Let's not fight each other. Let's fight the motherfucking patriarchy who created this shit.
@ellaesther: THIS. It was perfectly well-said. As someone who spent her teen years battling an ED and the comments of "You could stand to lose a few pounds" to someone who now gets told "You should eat more", the whole issue of weight and health is a total mindfuck to me.
@everyone: Man, you guys are the best! Thank you, a whole lot. This stuff breaks my heart.
Also, I just noticed that I said "...the motherfucking patriarchy who..." as if it were a person! An interesting slip that I'll have to think about here at desk ellaesther...!
Oh, God.....all I can say is this: If she's suffering from any kind of eating disorder, I hope she is able to get well. Also, looking at her photo, I notice she doesn't have any visible muscles anywhere, and for whatever reason that in particular makes my heart sad. Like here's this lovely human being, smiling and posing, but looking so weak and fragile. Oh man. I'm sad all over.
You know, I would love to believe her that she does eat well and she's healthy. And maybe she's not healthy like she claims, but that's not always because of anorexia. It can be due to thyroid issues, ungodly fast metabolism, sudden growth spurt, etc. Of course anorexia is a possibility, but we can't assume or claim it's that unless she admits it.
With that said, I just hope she keeps an eye on her health. But seeing previous photos of her from a year or so ago makes me a bit worried.
@Dottie Gale: She looks a good tens of pounds thinner in the pageant photo, and not as beautiful as in these ones.
Something similar happened to a cousin of mine that has/had a pageant thing. She's beautiful, but when the contest time approached she got excessively skinny.
@Southpaw: In my cousins case, she does have disordered eating. Thankfully, I haven't seen her go to the point in which I feel I should bitch-slap her parents.
If there were concrete medical guidelines to participate in the contest these kinds of issues would decrease. I bet there are differences in the metabolites excreted by a healthy thin person and a malnourished one.
*And do I really need to clarify that I'm in no way implying that only thin bodies are healthy? I hope not.*
This story kind of hits me the wrong way today because my daughter came home from school yesterday sad because she "looks like a piece of driftwood" and all her friends say she is "too skinny." She's not, although she is smaller than all her classmates. I will say though that she eats like a frickin' hog (and I mean that in the nicest way possible--we all call her "Groceries" because of the sheer amount she can put away). She just has the luck of being made like her father.
So even though this girl looks pretty damn thin, I can definitely sympathize. The thing is nobody knows what she does or does not eat. Hell, I'm a size 12 and I eat healthier than 80% of the people I know (which, being from the South, is not saying a lot).
I think it's weird to attribute ones' body shape/type to one's heritage. Average heights do vary depending on where you're from, sure--the average woman in the Netherlands will probably be a bit taller than the average woman in Japan--but peoples' bodies are different all over the globe. I'm willing to bet there are lots and lots of muscular or curvy Macedonians.

Sometimes I look at women like this young woman and think "why couldn't I look a bit more like that?" and that's not a positive way of thinking.
