Ooh, not to be morbid and insensitive, but Sadako from the "Ringu" series had Testicular Feminization Syndrome (outwardly female, genetically male). And yes, I am aware that someone who prefaces a comment like I have is usually saying, "Not to be an asshole, but I'm gonna say something offensive anyways."
The divorce isn't being recognized in Michigan, where the wife resides, because she wasn't able to have a lawyer present or have due process. Which makes it better.... kind of.
Junior High kids. Not that I'm some kind of expert, but my limited experience has taught me they can be pretty cruel, especially in groups. Maybe that's a universal truth? This story about the kids in Japan sort of creeps me out.
Also, I've never been divorced, but my beloved ex- broke up with me not with a text or a fax but via email. How I loved to razz him about that! His response, "I already apologized about that."
I can say with all authority that foreign adoptions are down because the red tape we now have thanks to Bush and DHS is a bitch. We adopted our Korean daughter 4 years ago. She was 19 at the time, but we had no problem with the adoption going through our county court. The judge was moved to tears and made a statement about how families come in all shapes and sizes and age doesn't matter. We had seen the process as a vow - we will always be here for her and provide for her in a way her single mother in Korea cannot.
Two weeks later she went home for the summer to work and help her birth mother. When it came time for her to begin college all the proper paperwork was in but she was denied a student visa because of the adoption! A TEMPORARY, student visa!! We were well aware that the adoption didn't change her immigration status but were shocked when this prevented her from coming back to the US so WE could pay for her college and provide for her! It took one year and a prominent senator from our state to get her out and back to start her education.
And now, through completely different circumstances, we have a son as well. His parents moved to another state to work and he remained here to finish his last 3 years of HS. He has been with us almost 3 months. During that time he spoke with his mother once. She does not pick up the phone when he (or we) call, and does not return voice mail messages. That doesn't matter. He's in Florida on a school trip right now and last night at church I got a text from him. It said "Hi mom I miss you. Have a happy Passover and tell dad I love him."
Thanks for letting me (semi)threadjack. I'm gonna go off and cry some more happy tears now.
@Gretchen (hates insurance adjusters and will get new timpan...: Countries have also made it harder for US parents to adopt, though. Russia, which for a long time has been a major country for Americans to adopt from, has a highly negative view of Americans adopting Russian orphans due to several high-profile cases where American adoptive parents killed their Russian children. I've even had friends tell me that they perceive American adoptions as putting Russian children in danger of getting murdered. China also introduced stricter adoption laws two years ago, with stipulations for age, body mass index, and you can't be on medications for a psychiatric disorder, i.e., prozac for depression.
I don't really see it as DHS so much as the other countries making it more difficult.
@otherginger: It's been a big rumor for many years, but there has never been proof of any kind. JLC has refused point blank to even comment on it (which somehow isn't very surprising).
I just read the subway groping story, dude had 30 prior arrests?! WTF, is jail a revolving door? I would have thought that by 10 arrests he shouldn't even be allowed into a train station let alone out in public.
As for skin tones and perception. That is why I pray everyday that we will all wake up with blue skin like the smurfs!
@Acolyte: That was an episode of Mork and Mindy! Mork was trying to be more social and joined a club to "clean up" Denver and it ended up being a white supremacist club. So he made them all different - I think there was one Asian, but also a purple guy and a plaid guy.
A Miscarriage Club? To wish that on their teacher, whom they disliked? Dear God. I hope they got flogged for that, or at least expelled. Expelled from the world, actually. Assholes.
My bosses tell this same story around this time of year. Before I started working here, there was this admin lady that would eat the heads of Peeps and leave the bodies lying around the office - bathroom, on top of the copier, by the coffee machine, in the boss's inbox.
@stacyinbean: @dianersb was bit by a zombie: I am SOOOO going to resurrect the ghost of crazy admin lady tomorrow. I heard she was a few fries short of a happy meal.
"certain (pale) skin tones are still associated with illness"
Hence why, when a lovely golden or brown skinned friend shaves her head, or wears her short hear wrapped under a scarf, she is lauded with compliments, as compared to when I (who am known to be quite very pale at times) do, and am told I look like a cancer patient. Pretty much every time.
Sex tourism creeps me out on a couple of different levels, irregardless of who's doing it. Be a normal, sociable human being and sit at home in the rain, playing Monopoly with friends and periodically slipping away to jack off silently in cupboard like the rest of us.

I bet these people recycle lots of them over and over too. Who's going to know.
(But if you are planning on using me for your vows I would NEVER do that...neeeeevvvver.)

Update: he's not so beloved any more.

They are far worse than either high school or elementary kids. It seems to be a very volatile time in an adolescents life.
