The notion that date rapes only take place after drinks are spiked does give women a false sense of security that as long as their drinks are clean, they'll be fine. This gloss definitely doesn't help that.
And honestly, I've heard people say things like, "well was she actually date-raped, was she roofied? or did she just drink too much and make a bad decision?" There is this notion that a date-rape can't really happen unless someone has been drugged with a benzo or GHB. As always, the problem seems to be getting men to realize that "having sex" with a woman who can't say no is rape.

I dated a wild-woman some years ago that used G recreationally - one night, she passed out twice for 5 minutes at a time at our booth just after returning from the bathroom. No one gave it much of a thought except me... This was in LA, at a dance-club w/ a $40 cover, in the late 90's and G was very popular then.

It's scary though, right? I mean, they say it just speeds up the effects of alcohol, but when your date or friend passes out, you wonder how easy it would be to mis-dose it, and for something worse than passing out to happen. Very stupid.
