So, were the Romanians booing Madonna for being called on their racism, or because she should have called the gypsies Romas?
Judging by her reaction, probably the first.
i gotta say, i was disappointed at jezebel for not criticizing chris brown more, particularly because he seems to have garnered so much sympathy from every other media outlet. when a celebrity beats up his girlfriend in an undeniably vicious way and parties after a relatively light sentencing, there should be more outrage, not sympathy and support. Link to examples of industry support statements: ([www.laineygossip.com])
@Experiment626: Mileage varies, of course, and you are amply entitled to your views. Certainly you are not alone in being disappointed in the vague, fuzzy-warm messages of support for Brown in the media and music industry. But my impression of Jezebel's coverage of the case has been profoundly different. It has been examined carefully and thoughtfully by the Jezebel editors and commentariat, and with exhaustive dedication not just to Brown's vicious crime but the millions upon millions of others that occur every day without the white-hot spotlight of media scrutiny.
If you genuinely think that Jezebel has been abdicating its responsibility as a strong voice for women in this particular case, I respectfully believe that you have not been paying attention.
@Harlot Brontë: No, I believe Jezebel has been awesome in its coverage of stories that may otherwise never get attention. It's just that I believe it could have done more with the Chris Brown/Rihanna debacle because he's a public figure who's publicly been forgiven and supported by fans. Quick snarky mentions of his partying ways along with other gossip items would have been enough. I guess I'm just particularly angry that a celebrity seems to get away with it so easily because he's "talented." There's little any of us can do about most of the other domestic violence cases, but in this particular instance, people have some amount of power because Chris Brown's career depends on the goodwill of the people.
@Experiment626: I understand and share your disgust with the way many other media outlets have handled the Chris Brown/Rihanna incident. The only reason this was mention was so "quick" and "snarky" is that this is a gossip roundup feature that doesn't lend itself to much analysis. Jezebel posted many articles analyzing the incident when it first happened and we've continued to cover the media reaction and the legal action against Chris, most recently here: [jezebel.com]

My sister and I have a pact that if we ever start sounding crazy and allowing or excusing our children's bad behavior that we must slap the offender in the face.
I think Momma Brown might need a slap in the face wake-up-call.
Maybe.
Honestly, I didn't understand what the hell she was talking about.
God is acting through Chris Domestic Violence Brown?
Ok.....
I think it's really cool that Mayer donated that much money for something so trivial and self-deprecating. Good for him for not being a douche for once.
@sarah.of.a.lesser.god (aka Mrs. BrutallyHonestHobbit): If you are not into tv, and don't watch it with the exception of major news events and Yankee games, why is your avatar a Simpsons character? It always amazes me how many people, who say that they watch no tv or just news and PBS, have a detailed knowledge of the tv shows that they claim not to watch.
@loves_hamsters: Seriously? I don't watch the Simpsons at the moment because the show has gone downhill. But I watched the first ten years religiously and saw the movie the day it came out, hence why I have a Maggie avatar. If I was trying to sound all intellectual, I probably wouldn't have mentioned my baseball watching habit. But nice try at a "gotcha" comment!
Also, maybe only another baseball fan would get this - but for 162 days of the year, I don't care HOW good it is, I might DVR it and watch it.. after baseball.
Seeing that quote paired with the mother of Chris Brown waxing poetic about God... I'm glad I am a pacifist. I am peacefully resisting the hell out of this shit.
LMAO. I'm trying that in court at my next appearance. "Your honor, I'd just like to say: This isn't about me and the stupid shit I did. It's about God." "Oh, well then, you're free to go. What a nice young person, clearing that up for me."
What a crock of SHIT. That whole statement was full of shit, but that bit in particular takes the shit cake with some peepee topping.
(I provided the peepee - because that shit made me pee my pants a little....not that there was a shit cake in my pants....oh, nevermind).
@femputer: Oh, what I wouldn't give to have God's voice booming down from on high and saying "Um, no it isn't about Me, lady. Also, the next person who says it's about Me is going to get a plague of locusts sent to their door. Capisce?"
@femputer: In her defense, if my son had assaulted his girlfriend like that, I might find religion too. But it would probably be the hellfire and brimstone variety.

George Clooney's hand!?
Jon Gosselin with a black eye?
The Countess back on the market?
The anomaly known as Megan Fox?
The end is near?! Someone call the big guy!
Oh. Wait. That's right. God can't answer right now because he's too busy talking through Chris Brown.

So, basically, if in every scene you didn't have to act, you'd be happy, Megan?

Instead maybe explain to DexterHaven why saying "rethink" slapping a victim of domestic violence in the face is too heavy for Jezebel.
