    God, you couldn't pay me to go back to the 90's hardcore scene. It was quite possibly the most openly hostile scene to be in as a female. So much macho posturing, so much being inadvertently knocked out by some windmilling idiot. Funny enough, though, I've watched the guys in the big pants and football necks with the "XXX" tattoos morph into the skinny, cokehead hipsters with the feminine short-shorts and ironic sunglasses.

    @Santos L Halper - Ovaries: Babe, I can guarantee that the 00's hardcore scene wasn't much better. There is still the idiotic windmilling, the metaphorical jacking off to "beatdown" bands, the weird sense of machismo.

    On the bright side, I know of like...2 female fronted bands, so that has to count for something...

    Okay, I'm being thick, I guess: how is the Chili Peppers with socks on their dicks an example of "male exploitation"? They didn't do that to be sexy and make women lube in their shorts (the way that, as tradition has it, women disrobe or dress scantily to move product via titillating male consumers); the Peppers did that to be funny and to parody the famous Beatles album cover Abbey Road. Am I right? (Er, am I?!)

    @bloodflower: I think she has a certain point though. I'm not sure how it fits into the example of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but there is an assumption that when men use their sexuality, they are in control of it, and when women do, they are being exploited. It's not that these aren't necessarily often true in the context our culture, but always assuming it can be harmful to both women and men.

    You know what? I don't know if this is schadenfreud(?) or what, but Shia's TMI Tour 2009 is kind of refreshing to me, in that we've got a calvacade of female child-stars that have had their bidness put out there for us to judge/mock/sympathize with, but seemingly the boys that pop out of the Disney/Nickelodeon machine come out unscathed. Not so with Shia. I'm not blaming Hollywood, but I'm just saying it's rare to hear someone be so honest about his oddness.
