Can we start a petition that calls for Dolly to come be a guest on Jezebel? Like, a guest contributor, or just come hang out in the threads with us? Or.......OHGOD!! How about an episode of PotPsych featuring Dolly?! Even though I'm fairly sure she doesn't do drugs, she could just come sit in Tracie's closet with Rich and the three of them could do the show as usual. How awesome would that be???
@..now it's just Aesop's Foibles.: I hear she loves coffee - I would like to see 'Caffeine Corrections' with Dodai and Dolly. They would drink a lot of espresso and rattle through commenters problems but in a nice way.
@..now it's just Aesop's Foibles.: I would sign that petition in a trice, in a New York minute, in a hot minute, at the drop of a hat, faster than you could say Jack Robinson, so fast it would make your head spin.
@kerald: White doesn't show up very well on camera. It absorbs the light and "blows out". That's why you often see news anchors wearing light blue and John Stewart and Stephen Colbert's notes are always on blue paper.
See why I like Zac Efron?! See? Not just a pretty face (though it is a very nice face. And etc. He has a nice etc.) I forgive him the obvious discomfort at the Oscars -- he's young. I guarantee you, he was mortified, and it won't happen again. (Well, I'm just guessing, so I can't really issue a guarantee. But, I feel fairly confident!)
Also, this reminds me of the time someone said that at this point in pop culture, there's nothing more punk than sincerity. I'm ALL over that.
@Mav: No no! No head hanging! Head up with pride! Head in the clouds with self-affirmation! Head, uh, smiling!
I swear, the reason people think he's silly is because he was in three Disney movies that are neither dark nor particularly reflective of lived reality. And because he's handsome. We tend to not want to believe that our handsome/beautiful people can be smart or funny.
But I mean it: I've read a good handful of interviews, and he seems totally ok, totally head-on-straight. AND, as the parent of two young children, I have seen those three movies more times than I can count (quite literally) and dude can act, dude can sing (ish), and dude can dance.
@ellaesther: Yes but I already allowed myself not to hate RPattz and to actually vaguely like him due to his really random sense of humour and his comments about SMeyers and how weird it was with her on set.
If I also allow Efron based on what, acting ability and and... intelligence... I fear there may be no end in sight.
That said, I do have more respect for him than many others his age. How many movies has he done already? I mean, they may not be classics in the sense of Citizen Kane or anything, but he's not coasting, he's working his butt off. I can respect that. He's getting shit done and I've barely ever seen him in tabloids. To that I do tip my hat to the boy.
@Mav: That's so funny! That's how I feel about television: "No, no, I already have my drama that I watch and my two comedies, and lord knows there's Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart. Can't fit another thing in, it would be too upsetting."
I know, it's not really the same, but it felt the same at the time!
My mom is convinced that Dolly Parton is a raging anti-semite and it makes me sad. Yeah, Dolly said something stupid, but she is certainly not anti-semitic. I don't think my mom even knows what she said. Sigh.
@tudobem: From my understanding was she (unsuccessfully) pitched a movie about an Evangelical Christian to studio execs. In an interview she said the reason why she was having trouble getting the movie made was because a lot of Hollywood executives are Jewish and wouldn't want to make a movie about a devout Christian.
Granted, it was a pretty stupid thing to say, but it certainly was not hateful.
"I'm excited to not have everything scheduled in advance. I can just call up a friend and grab lunch. I can wear white when I want to - I could never do that on camera. I can go backless!"
Oh Laruen, we thought that WAS what you were doing on camera. It was, wasn't it...?
@Majrhoulihan: I think she's pretty awesome! (Full disclosure: I respect her. I don't always enjoy her music, but I respect her acumen, and I admire her skills. My personal tastes simply lie elsewhere. And Whitney should NOT have taken "I'll Always Love You" from her!)
@tudobem: I've read a few interviews with him, and dude just sounds - cool. Like a grown-up. Like even as a teenager, he kept his head about him, and he's not about to lose it now.
Miley Cyrus= you are not what you think you are. You're a tween who looks good in a blonde wig and thinks she's a RAWK chick because she plays the guitar. I'll play you the Talking Heads and then we'll see who's the artist and who's gonna be shaking their ass on tv at 17. I'll give you a hint: it's not Tina Weymouth.
