I work at a police department with lots of Republicans, most of whom seem to think Obama will win. I am still nervous. I remember 2000 all too well.

I am staying up all night if need be. I will also be drinking, heavily. And praying, seriously. Normally, if I am planning a massive hangover, I tell my boss I'm going to bang in sick the next day (he's cool like that). However, we have an uber important meeting on the 5th so I will be spending Tuesday faking stomach cramps. Actually, now that I think about it, I might not even have to fake it.

This election has me so stressed, I have dubbed the knots in my shoulders "McCain" and "Palin."

I had a dream last night, and in it Obama sat me down and told me that no matter what happens, he was not going to stop fighting for us in the Senate and we as a country would be 'okay'.

And as my stomach dropped and my lip started to quiver, he stood up, winked and said "But dont worry, we got this shit in the bag." And then we did a jaeger bomb together.

Scientific, no. But J Bombs with Obama are a guaranteed win.

Because I'm paranoid, I'm posting this again.

Voters in Western states: Please stay in line and vote, EVEN IF THE ELECTION HAS ALREADY BEEN CALLED. Remember 2000, when Florida went to Gore and then went to Bush about an hour later? If any Eastern states are go blue and then go red after a more votes are counted, we have to be ready to defeat McCain out West too. That means bring a book (cell phones are illegal at polling facilities), a magazine, and a meal -- but stay to vote. A few extra hours in a long line mean NOTHING compared to 4 more years. Please. Vote.

And absentee voters, call the Board of Elections in your county\state and make sure that your vote was counted. In some counties, e.g. Duval County (Jacksonville) in Florida, absentee ballots were tossed because the voter's signature did not match their signature that was on file when they registered. [www.msnbc.msn.com] A friend of mine had her vote tossed because her signature at 25 does not match her signature at 18. But she's making a hell of a fuss with Duval County now.

@stacyinbean is a proud East Coast Librul Elitist: The popular vote thing really baffles me. 46.4% of people watched the incompetent McCain campaign and thought "you betcha!".

Aside from partisan ideologies, and the "base" voters who would never vote dem or black or whatever, that's still a fucking lot of people voting for hate.

I stayed up until 3 AM in 2000, and went to sleep happy and secure because Gore was in charge. Then I woke up to one of my Republican friends on the phone, happy about the election, and I knew I should never have rested.

In 2004 I sat on that couch for hours after the inevitable end, just waiting for someone to give Kerry Ohio.

This year I have lots of coffee ready, and I will not relax until Obama is in that damn oval office. I may send him sage to smudge the demons away.

You may not have watched The Incredibles and why should you if you don't have children or live near Emoryville? Anyhoo, there is a scene at the end where the parents are encouraging their super fast son to run, but not TOO fast, so they actually shout at him to slow down. I feel a little like this now. As much as I would love the feeling of a landslide, I just want a clean win. And it DOES look like we will win. My 7 yr. old daughter was putting up Go Vote stickers supplied by the Obama campaing today and I did not see ONE similar sticker - just saying Go Vote - from the other side. Maybe they don't want people to go vote? Maine voters can expect a call from me on Monday morning and if you need a ride, even last minute, let a friend know!

I, personally, am growing an ulcer. Because i am a pessimist and feel like if I want a really important thing, like reeeeally want it, it won't happen.
However, I have not given up hope. (pessimists are allowed to hope, right?)

Bush won in '04 because Kerry was just a weak candidate. I imagine that the DNC knew it and expected to lose in hopes that Bush would screw things up so royally that the Democrats would look like heroes coming to the rescue in '08, which is what's happening with Obama. Of course, one could argue that the GOP brass is also waging a strategic losing tactic by running a weak ticket like McCain/Palin and dumping Bush's mess onto Obama's lap so that the Republicans would look like saviors in '12.

Look, as long as we all do what we can, as long as we vote, encourage others to vote, and as long as we contribute to the campaign, Obama will win. I know it. I feel it. It's the same feeling I had in Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS when I was sure the Red Sox couldn't possibly win. But when out 27 was recorded, I was the happiest man on Earth. I imagine that November 4th and 5th are going to be like that.

Let's just stay the course, have faith, and keep doing what we can to get out the vote for Obama.
