Awesome (although right now I'd like a vacay from the puppy who currently is really into trying to eat my Aveda hair brush)! It reminds me of The Historic Anderson House B&B in Wabasha, Minnesota, where you can get a cat with your room ([www.historicandersonhouse.com]).
I want to live there. But it makes me sad that some dogs go on fancy, fun-filled vacations whilst others are dying as they're smuggled into Italy (as per the previous story). I feel weird watching dog shows, too, because meanwhile there are lovely dogs languishing in shelters... Sigh.
My friend runs a VERY dog-focused inn in North Carolina near Asheville called Ponder Cove. 81 acres and teh puppies run and run and run. For you east-coasters, check it out! pondercove.com is the website address.
This would be amazing - if the airlines hadn't more than doubled the cost of bringing my dog (who goes under the seat in front of my, by the way) on the airplane. WHY it costs and arm and a leg to bring on the same number of carry-ons as everyone else? Never been explained to me argh.
@sportz.star: UGH! Agreed! Frontier won't even let you carry dogs on any more... and because I REFUSE to even talk about him going into the cargo hold, I'm forced to leave the little one behind. Supposedly if I get a note from a therapist saying I'll freak without him, they have to let me bring him on... know a nice shrink that will lie for me?
@schlegs84: I've been looking for a doc for the same purpose -- any Jezzie-docs willing to help a sister (or two) out??
I actually snuck my dog onto my United flight coming home from Tday because I was so appalled at the price when I flew out. My poor little guy might have to be kenneled for a week over Christmas. It's not the worst thing, it's just that - he COULD come, if the airlines weren't such arseholes.
@Archetype: Mine goes sans-drugs but with collar that "corrects" if he barks. And I used to see it more and the past six months a lot less, likely due to increasing costs of both tickets and fees to bring dog.
@Archetype: Their restaurant, The Ravens, is also magnificent. It's all vegetarian which for me - um, a vegetarian - is wonderful but honestly, the food is great and I don't think most people would miss the meat.
My parents lived in the area for a couple years and that place is the main thing I miss about going up there :)
Ah! Want to take my dogs there immediately! I mean, I have woods and a creek right behind my house that they play in with their dog buddies, but shiiiit, it ain't no Catskills retreat.
Well thank God these dogs get a good vacation. Meanwhile, I get to work insanely long days (when I'm not busy recovering from stupid knee surgery) and haven't left the city in about thirty years.
@Annabellie: Best wishes for a quick recovery!!! I've had many a knee surgery, and none were fun, and they were always less fun in the winter - what with crutches and ice not getting along so well.
@Annabellie: I'm sorry, that was way more negative than in needed to be. I've just had a long, crappy day, my knee hurts, and the Canadian government has disappointed me yet again.
@sportz.star: Thanks!!! I've graduated to a cane, but that's mostly because the crutches gave me a pinched nerve in my arm. I'm sorry to hear that you've had many a knee surgery, because after one, I've definitely had more than enough.
@Annabellie: I was an athlete who earned my knee problems. Just do whatever your therapist says and (hopefully) you'll be great! Not a fun process - but it comes with vicoden, right? THAT'S the good part.

So weird.
On of my best friends travels with her mini datsun (sp?), usually on Jetblue, and she also stashes her under the seat - after drugging her up.

You want to use < as brackets instead of [ and don't close it.

And I'm not sure he would even count as a 'really big' rat... just a medium sized one.
